Got a text from a client saying they were having t $Got a text from a client saying they were having trouble with this problem. Teachers, if you know a student has dyslexia, is it appropriate to assign homework with problems like this? Tenths is represented as a word, a fraction, and a decimal. I am not saying this is a bad problem, I sort-of like the problem. However, I feel it was asking too much of a student with multiple learning disabilities. Showed how I explain dynamic addition yesterday.
I didn’t bring a whiteboard and wrote on some card stock in a page protector, so the second photo is very cluttered.
Addends of 10 are probably the most important math facts students need after counting & place value.
Drawing math problems is the step between manipulatives and numbers. It is another tool students can use if they have anxiety and their minds go blank.

I don’t know how many people attend each church, but there are three Lutheran churches and only one other church in town, a Methodist church.

I use different terminology to give students optio $I use different terminology to give students options so they choose the way they want to remember vocabulary. Other terms I use are Numberator (stolen from @mathusee ) and Dude Downstairs eating pizza. Norman and Donkey are terms I lifted from @hashtag.drivers.ed who is one of my teacher heroes. Took a drive this morning. After visiting my father’s grave, went another 1/2 mile north to the state line.
Then, another mile north to Gordonsville, MN to the church where my parents got married. It is across the road from my grandfather’s (now my uncle’s) farm. Being a proper Midwest church the kitchen is half of the size of the sanctuary.
Yes. I took the video while driving out of town. Kids, don’t do that.
